Are you satisfied wih Mediaringtalk ? Which is better Nymgo or Mediaringtalk

Mediaringtalk has made a big name in this industry, but keeping the name is a big deal. Nymgo on the other hand just launched its service, offers very cheap rates (cheaper than mediaringtalk), good voice quality and it too has become very popular among voip users (I guess we were the first few ones to post (blog post) about Nymgo).

This questions is actually a tuff one to answer which service (Nymgo or Mediarintalk) one should go for ?

You will find both positive and negative points for both services (both satisfied and unsatisfied customers).

One of the very important point to be checked while choosing your voip provider is its customer support. Many a times it happens that after purchasing credit you face some difficulty making calls, you try to contact customer support (but no response) and you end loosing up money.

Recently, this happened with one of our regular readers Mr Alpesh (Problem with Mediaringtalk). He posted about his experience in the comment sections and asked me to make others aware of it. Below is Alpesh's experience lifted from comments section.

So I asked them to call me back so that the problem can be fixed. But it seems that they call only for order confirmation & not to provide any support.

They keep on mailing me to open different TCP & UDP Ports. Why will i put in time to open ports. I would rather prefer putting in extra penny to get peace of mind. "

Its quite possible that majority of people may not face any problem with Mediaringtalk but for a voip provider to survive in this competitive market, its important to answer queries of all customers. Good Customer support is very important.

Keep your number and switch service Provider : Mobile Number Portability in India

The concept of Mobile number portability is still a concept in India, and is yet to be implemented. I guess many of you must be thinking to switch your mobile service provider but won't be doing that as you don't want to loose your mobile number.

Soon, if you are not satisfied with your mobile service provider (may be rates are high, or may be there are no schemes or for any other reason), then you will easily be able switch to some other mobile service provider that too without loosing your mobile number and keeping the same.

Mobile number portability simple means that Mobile number will not be permanently associaed with any provider. I guess this type concept is highly benicificial both for the customers and for mobile service providers.

Many a times people don't join a new service provider just because they will be loosing their mobile number (which they don't want to). This way a already grown network keeps growing and leaves no room for a new service provider. Mobile number portability will remove monopoly of these service providers.

Department of Telecom (DoT) has invited bids from companies with worldwide experience to implement MNP in India. It is expected that customers will be to access this facility in the second half of 2009.

DoT has also revealed that TRAI will decide the amount which customer will have to pay. In 2006, Trai had recommended that consumers pay between Rs 200 and Rs 300 every time he/she wants to change their service provider.

Lets just hope that MNP is launched in India soon.

Using Voip for STD and Local calls in India

We have posted about some Indian voip providers giving minutes to call USA, Canada etc but have you ever wondered how much profitable will it be use voip for STD calls in India.

Though voip services in India ain't much advanced, still using softphones for making PC to Phone calls is legal or using SIP devices for making voip calls is also legal.

When I say using voip for making STD calls, I don't refer to using Indian voip providers like MTNL, or sifytalk but actually I refer to those voip providers offering cheap calls to India.

Let me come to the point. I live in Delhi and local mobile to mobile calls cost about Rs 1/min (2.3 cents/min) and STD calls cost about Rs 1.3-1.5 /min (3-4 cents/min). (These rates are for a normal mobile plan without any addon package).

Though the above rates don't seem much costly but actually considering voip rates, there is still lot of scope for cost reduction.

Now consider the rates by voip providers like Nymgo, Mediaringtalk and other cheap voip services. Nymgo offers a calling package (1750 min at just $19.99 per month), effective rates comes out to 1.13 cents/min (Rs 0.5/min). Why is 3G and VOIP services still not implemented in India ?

This is a major question among the people of India. Why do 3G and voip services in India still lagging behind ? why do these services not implemented in India. Why do we have only one or two voip providers in India ?


Why ?
Sometime back, we heard that voip is officially legal in India and that MTNL is providing voip in Delhi and Mumbai. iPhone was also launched in India and then we heard about 3G services to be launched in India. But the major question is when will all this practically happen. What are the major problems that are stopping the progress of Indian telecom industry.


While surfing one of the voip magazines, I came across a statement of TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) stating that it did not have enough enforcement powers and hence the delay in deploying services like 3G and VoIP.


If the authority itself will give such answers, and if TRAI don't have the powers then who else enjoy these powers.


About the TRAI statute amendment, TRAI chairman said, "Our proposal for revamping the TRAI Act is pending with the government for two years. It relates to very specific powers of interconnection, issue of penalty because we have very little enforcement power so how do we impose penalty ?" Asked if he expected the 3G auction to be held soon, Mishra said it will still be another 6-8 months before users can access the third generation mobile services.


My question to them is because of laziness of babus (govt. officials), or because of any other reasons of Indian govt., why should a common man suffer...?
